With Cheryl Cole going solo from pop group Girls Aloud and her band mate following suit, you’d think a battle for the number one spot would be on their hands. Not quite, as the battle is on something closer to home – a baby!

Bookies Paddy Power have revealed that the favourite to win another kind of race, the baby kind, is the Irish singer Nadine Coyle. The 23-year-old songstress beat Cheryl Cole with her 2/1 odds compared to Cheryl’s 5/2.

With the X-Factor judge happily married to footballer Ashley Cole and having recently spoken out about her desire to have a baby, it’s surprising that Nadine, who is dating US soccer player Jason Bell, topped the bets on becoming a mum.

The fellow Girls Aloud members also featured on the baby race betting list with Kimberley Walsh, 28, coming in at 11/4, Nicola Roberts, 24, at 4/1 and 29-year-old Sarah Harding at 6/1.

“Cheryl has made no secret of the fact that she’d love to start a family but her and Ashley have had their fair share of problems this year while Nadine has enjoyed a stress free romance,” Sharon McHugh from Paddy Power said.

Nadine Coyle is set to release her solo album in the New Year.

The Girls Aloud star – who has now permanently relocated to Los Angeles following a year-long break from the band – hopes her fans like her debut LP which she plans to release in the spring.

She said: “I’ve been writing my own songs. It’s been an incredible experience, I’m hoping to release it in the spring.

“I wrote nearly all the songs myself. It’s quite embarrassing when you start songwriting because you are opening yourself up, I think people are going to like the album though.”

The 24-year-old star doesn’t care if her solo work isn’t as successful as Girls Aloud’s music.

She said in an interview with Britain’s Star magazine: “I doubt it will be as big as Girls Aloud because we had to work so long and so hard to get to that level. I’ll just be happy to get the album out there and have it in the shops. After that, who knows?”

Nadine has no plans to move back to the UK because she loves the US and her life with her American football player boyfriend Jason Bell so much.

She said: “I am an LA girl now through and through, so I won’t be moving back to London or Ireland. I love life in America too much. I have my own bar business there and I have a house on the beach. What more could a girl want?”

Nadine Coyle says she’s envious of Cheryl Cole’s proximity to X Factor impresario Simon Cowell.

Nadine is currently in America, hard at work on her debut solo album which launches next year.

“I think anyone would be envious that Cheryl has Simon Cowell’s backing,” she told Closer magazine.

Nadine said she’s happy for her bandmate and that she phoned Cheryl after her performance on the X Factor to compliment her.

“We’re not at war,” she said.

Derry pop sensation Nadine Coyle got her hands dirty for the environment at the weekend when she joined the city’s Conservation Volunteers as they entered the Guinness Book of Records by planting more than 26,000 trees in one hour.

The Girls Aloud star arrived at Gransha Park in a local taxi and was chaperoned by her American-based agents before taking time out to speak to dedicated fans who had gathered to see her.

She was accompanied by her boyfriend, former New York Giants player Jason Bell, who said he was “really enjoying his time in Derry.”

Speaking to the ‘Sunday Journal’ during her whistle-stop visit, Nadine said she was “delighted to be home.”

“I try to get back home to Derry every two or three months,” she said.
“I’m so glad to have been involved with the Conservation Volunteers on this project and we got a really beautiful day to show Derry off to everyone. This initiative is all about being green and conserving energy. I went to see a similar project in North Carolina where they planted a forest recently and I’m delighted to see it happening in Derry. It’s great.”

nadine coyleConservation volunteers, including the Girl’s Aloud star Nadine Coyle, have broken the world record for the largest number of trees planted in one hour.

Over 100 people took part in the event in Londonderry, planting 26,422 trees at Gransha Woods. They beat the previous record by more than 8,000.

It was part of the BBC Breathing Places ‘Tree O’Clock’ event which aimed to plant thousands of trees across the UK. Over 3,000 trees were also planted at a Tree O’Clock event at Stormont.

The Environment Minister Edwin Poots joined GAA players and a host of local sports stars to lend a hand in the planting of thousands of young oak and ask trees on the estate.

Similar tree planting events also took place in Craigavon, Ballymena and County Tyrone on Saturday.

nadine coyleAs the NI Children’s Hospice launches its annual Lights to Remember Christmas appeal, Audrey Watson speaks exclusively to its ambassador, Girls Aloud superstar, Nadine Coyle.

Making Rice Krispie buns isn’t what Nadine Coyle usually does during a personal appearance, but the big-hearted Londonderry-born star and one-fifth of female supergroup Girls Aloud will be slaving away in the kitchen today, in her role as Ambassador for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

“I got involved with the Children’s Hospice a few years ago through friends of my mum and dad,” explains Nadine. “One of their family suffered from a terminal illness and had spent time in the Hospice.

“I became very interested, especially as I was aware how invaluable it had been to the whole family. Someone suggested going along for a look and I was so moved, I decided to help in any way I could.
“It’s such a happy, positive place and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was and how much fun the kids seemed to be having.

“Being involved and seeing the kids and the staff makes me feel very humble and grateful. What they are doing is really important — giving families a rest and providing children with somewhere that they look forward to going.

“The last time I visited, we all sang and I taught the children the dance moves from Love Machine, which was great fun.
